Aspen: Eadha
The names of the Celtic tree months come from some of the letters of the Ogham. The Ogham is an ancient alphabet believed to have originated in the 4th century (possibly as early as the 1st) in what is now the southwest region of Ireland.
The Celtic day of Aspen, the day before the autumnal equinox, is associated with:
Ogham: Eadha, Eadhadh, Edad – ("ayda" or "EH-yuh") symbolizes opposition or adversity
The energy of Eadha is not really about the adversity itself, it is what we learn about ourselves. When I write, perhaps the most important piece of a story is how the main character is transformed by obstacles and resistance to change. This can also be true in life.
When we focus on the energy of Aspen, we understand what is required of us: keep growing no matter what the season, know that abundant resources are available (or will be soon), and most of all, seek the light. We see the embodiment of endurance in the Aspen, and a spiritual mindset to face challenges with flexibility and patience, knowing that no season lasts forever. When we walk among the Aspen, we notice its relationship to the wind. It whispers messages to us in the language of our hearts: courage, dear soul, this too shall pass.
Do what lights you up,
Sadie
Please note: Some people start the tree calendar with Birch in January, which follows the solar calendar. However, I learned them in an older tradition, which aligns with the 13-month lunar calendar. It's up to you to discern what feels right for you, of course.
