Apple: Quert

The names of the Celtic tree months come from some of the letters of the Ogham. The Ogham is an ancient alphabet believed to have originated in the 4th century (possibly as early as the 1st) in what is now the southwest region of Ireland.

The Celtic month of Apple, June 13 - July 10, is associated with:

Ogham: Quert – (kwert) represents fertility, beauty, and choice. It is associated with goddess, divine feminine energy, connection to female ancestral lineage or homeland, Gaia, and Mother Earth.

The energy of Quert is abundance and fruitful bounty, seeing the beauty and oneness in nature, and the deep understanding of our choices. In this sense, there are simply choices--no good or bad, but just choices with potential outcomes. When we connect with Quert, we begin to realize that often we miss the present moment-ness of nature when we focus too narrowly on making the "right" or "perfect" choice, rather than trusting that no matter our choice, we will still end up where we're meant to end up. As in the movie "Sliding Doors," the two realities end up pretty much with the same outcome, one just takes longer and is more painful. But rather than try to avoid the pain, we can rely on the wisdom of our ancestors and intuitive messages through mediation and communing in nature, trusting that we are heading in the best direction.

Consider Quert's connection to the apple tree, which is in nearly every corner of the globe, carried by ancient travelers from one civilization to another. It calls us to connect with our ancestors and to use discernment in carrying (or laying down) generational lessons, scars, strengths, and beliefs. Now is the time to appreciate the beautiful choices we have to carry ancient strength inside us, to break generational cycles, and to release ancestral wounds.

Please note: Some people start the tree calendar with Birch in January, which follows the solar calendar. However, I learned them in an older tradition, which aligns with the 13-month lunar calendar. It's up to you to discern what feels right for you, of course.
