Each of the Celtic trees correlates with a Rune. Runes are a twenty-four letter alphabet, originating with Germanic tribes as early as the 2nd century. Runic glyphs were carved or etched into bone, wood, leather, jewelry, tools, weapons, and stone. Norse and Viking runic artifacts dating as far back as the 9th century have been found in several Northern European and Scandinavian countries, Russia, Turkey and North America. Notably, runes found in Canada and the United States pre-date Columbus by several hundred years, so he was definitely not the first visitor.

The Celtic month of Holly, May 16 - June 12, is associated with:

Rune: Tiwaz

This rune symbolizes the spiritual warrior who battles both self and injustice in the world, both which require discernment and compassion. In relationship questions, this rune indicates the connection is divinely brought together so that you can do work together. In matters that require action for justice or fairness, this rune urges you to persevere with patience.

Just as the ancient Celts believed Holly to be sacred for protection, this rune was commonly drawn on the shields of warriors before going into battle, as a symbol of courage dedication to the cause, and for protection.
