Hawthorn: Huathe

Hawthorn: Huathe

The names of the Celtic tree months come from some of the letters of the Ogham. The Ogham is an ancient alphabet believed to have originated in the 4th century (possibly as early as the 1st) in what is now the southwest region of Ireland.

The Celtic month of Hawthorn, March 21 - April 17, is associated with:

Ogham: Huathe – (OO-ah) represents cleansing and clearing, purity, protection of your inner realm, guarding of what you hold sacred.

The energy of Huathe is self-empowerment and healthy boundaries. It is knowing that "NO" is a complete sentence, and doesn't require any further explanation. It is taking inventory of your life and priorities, and contemplating how often you feel peace of mind, creative, and safe (emotionally or physically). Huathe reminds us to cleanse any physical or energetic clutter from our lives and spaces.

Consider Huathe's connection to the Hawthorn tree, which grows in some parts of the world where superstition garners a respect to be left alone, and in other areas it is valued and cared for as a creative and meditative art form. Find your place and your people, the ones who value you, and when you can't, be sure they have a healthy respect for your boundaries.

Do what lights you up,
Sadie

Please note: Some people start the tree calendar with Birch in January, which follows the solar calendar. However, I learned them in an older tradition, which aligns with the 13-month lunar calendar. It's up to you to discern what feels right for you, of course.
