The names of the Celtic tree months come from some of the letters of the Ogham. The Ogham is an ancient alphabet believed to have originated in the 4th century (possibly as early as the 1st) in what is now the southwest region of Ireland.
The Celtic month of Willow, January 24- February 20, is associated with:
Ogham: Saille – (sahl’yeh) represents the Divine feminine in all forms—maiden, mother, and crone; fertility and creative energy; the moon; shared power and cooperation in the home and in the community.
When we discuss Divine feminine or masculine energy, we're talking about attributes that are ideally present and balanced in all humans, no matter how you define yourself.
The energy of Saille is the potential of the tree within a new seedling. It is the vast network of tree roots in a hundred-year-old forest. It is at the core of the story told in the Barbie movie. It is perhaps best illustrated by the photo of Jamie Lee Curtis unabashedly cheering for her best friend Michele Yeo's 2023 Golden Globe win. It is authentic, purpose-driven yet fully present, and empowered with pure intention.
Do what lights you up,
Sadie

Please note: Some people start the tree calendar with Birch in January, which follows the solar calendar. However, I learned them in an older tradition, which aligns with the 13-month lunar calendar. It's up to you to discern what feels right for you, of course.
