Ash 2024

Ash 2024

The period from February 21 - March 20 is Ash, according to the Celtic Tree calendar.

Ash trees can grow up to 50 feet tall with a spread of up to 25 feet. Its branches develop in pairs and each leaf has 5-7 leaflets. Ash woodlands support and enhance soil composition and biodiversity. In the autumn, they drop leaves and "keys," or winged fruit, which are recycled more quickly than most other trees. It improves the soil nutrients and pH levels, and promotes decomposition and fungi growth. Many woodland creatures eat its leaves and keys, and find shelter in it.

Symbolically, Ash is just being itself, and by doing so, benefits those around it.

The Ash tree is the "World Tree" depicted in the center of the world in many ancient and modern cultural myths around the world. In Celtic mythology it is believed to be enchanted, so many magick wands were once made from ash wood.

Norse mythology calls it "Yggdrasil," or the tree that is rooted and connected to everything in every dimension across all time. (You can learn more about the Norse mythology here.) Ash reminds us to look deep within ourselves for the answers we seek, and to acknowledge our interconnectedness with the world around us. (There are some scholars who believe that the Yggdrasil is actually a Yew, so feel free to research on your own.)

I highly recommend the Oscar-winning film, "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once," as a modern take on Oneness consciousness.

Do what lights you up,
Sadie
