Ash: Nuin

Ash: Nuin

The names of the Celtic tree months come from some of the letters of the Ogham. The Ogham is an ancient alphabet believed to have originated in the 4th century (possibly as early as the 1st) in what is now the southwest region of Ireland.

The Celtic month of Nuin, February 21 - March 20, is associated with:

Ogham: Nuin– (nin) often represents the World Tree, "As above, so below. As within, so without," inner world and outer world, macrocosm and microcosm. There are some scholars who believe that the World Tree is actually a Yew, so feel free to research on your own. Rather than debate that, I'd like to focus on the attributes of the Ash.

Ash is found standing alone and in woodlands. In the autumn the Ash tree drops winged fruit also known as "keys," which is curious because Nuin resembles the end of a key. In meditation, I received insight that whether Ash stands alone or in a grove, it offers its keys. This is symbolic for anyone who may be questioning their purpose, especially if they seem to be "going it alone." Keep being you, your authentic self, no matter who is or isn't around you. Consider your unique gifts your "keys" to connection with higher Self and with your community.

Do what lights you up,
Sadie

Please note: Some people start the tree calendar with Birch in January, which follows the solar calendar. However, I learned them in an older tradition, which aligns with the 13-month lunar calendar. It's up to you to discern what feels right for you, of course.
