Stone: Herkimer Diamond

Herkimer diamonds are a unique type of quartz crystals, not diamonds. They form as double-terminated (points on both ends) short, stout, and clear or included prismatic crystals. They were discovered in the late 18th century within exposed outcrops of dolomite in Herkimer County and the Mohawk River Valley of New York. Double-terminated quartzes are also found in Mexico, Spain, and Tanzania, but to be called a "Herkimer diamond" the crystal must come from Herkimer, NY.

This crystal is known for its positive affect on dreams, lucid dreaming, and bringing spiritual vision and goals to physical manifestation. Some carry it or wear it to help with clarity of intention and purification of self-doubt. It is known as an "attunement stone" that can help with beginning again, adjusting to a new person, environment, or activity. It stimulates clairvoyance and clairaudience. It is generally associated with Sagittarius and vibrates to the number three.

Amethyst Herkimer Diamonds integrate the properties of amethyst with the properties of double-terminated quartz, which is a powerful stone, but are not technically Herkimer diamonds as they come from Mexico and Tanzania. Double-terminated diamonds from Mexico often contain rutile or goethite.
